In 2021 Mateusz Waligóra, the first person to solo cross the Mongolian Gobi Desert, like many others had to change his plans. Instead of setting off on his Austrian expedition that he had been planning for two years, he stayed home in Poland and embarked on a long hike along the Vistula River, following a route from its mountain source to its mouth at the Baltic Sea.
Passing villages, major cities, crossing motorways and long-forgotten trails, Mateusz walked across Poland for 46 days. This inconspicuous trip resulted in a wonderful book and many articles raising awareness and discussing the state of the ninth largest river in Europe and its uncertain future.
