A new route on Spantik

Mathieu “Meme” Maynadier is no stranger to the Gilgit-Baltistan region. This time he teamed up with his friend Mueez Ud Din to make the first ascent of the east ridge of Spantik, the Golden Peak. It was a successful attempt at a steep, exposed and untouched line — and an ongoing one at something else.

Probably for the first time ever, a Pakistani mountaineer was involved not as a supporter, but as a climber opening a major new route. Maynadier and Ud Din hope that their symbolic partnership will bring global and local climbing communities closer together. Zindabad means “long live” in Urdu.
